The David Kriser Lung Cancer Center is dedicated to the prevention,
early detection, and treatment of lung cancer. The Center's
aim is to improve the prognosis of lung cancer at every stage
of disease.
Lung Cancer Treatment
The David Kriser Lung Cancer Center is particularly proud
of its success rate among older lung cancer patients. Continued
efforts to improve success rates have included sandwich
chemotherapy and radiation oncology, administered presurgically,
to shrink the tumor. If surgery cannot completely remove the
tumor, brachytherapy (radiation given directly into the tumor)
can be used.
The Center is conducting clinical research studies, including
a study of nodal dissection as part of a national surgical
study sponsored by the American College of Surgical Oncology.
In several novel treatment trials, our researchers are focusing
on outcomes of treating advanced regional disease combined
with radiation and chemotherapy regimens. The David Kriser
Lung Cancer Center is also participating in a trial of IRESSA,
a new class of drugs that target specific membrane proteins
of the lung cancer cell.
