In collaboration with Continuum Cancer Centers of New York,
the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care addresses
the specific needs of patients with chronic pain, helping
to improve quality of life for patients and their families.
Pain Management
The division of Pain Management was developed to assist patients
who experience chronic pain.
Treatment options offered in the Pain Management Department
include:
Drug therapy
Psychological interventions
Access to rehabilitative
therapies, including physical therapy and occupational therapy
Invasive pain-relieving
treatments
Access to complementary
medicine
Palliative Care
Patients referred to the Palliative Care Division are matched
to the appropriate services throughout the course of their
disease. Inpatients at the Petrie Division of Beth Israel
Medical Center are referred to the department's consultation
team. Outpatients are referred to a physician in the department's
ambulatory practice.
The Palliative Care Division offers a specialized interdisciplinary
program that includes:
Assessment and management
of inpatients by a consultation team
Case management in the
ambulatory setting. Following discharge, outpatients are referred
to our outpatient practice.
Access to a newly renovated
18-bed inpatient pain and palliative care unit at Beth Israel
Medical Center (Petrie Division)
Access to the Jacob Perlow
Hospice for those patients requiring end-of-life care and
bereavement services
